The Wŭ Cup was designed by Tōsei for La Cabra as a tea cup that unites form and function. Its distinctive geometric form allows for effortless stacking. The five sides and five angles come together to form a functional vessel for drinking, while each side defines the form in balance.
Wŭ (五)is the number five in Chinese. It originally referred to the five elements in nature - wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. The upper and lower lines in the Chinese character “五” symbolize heaven and earth, which are connected by the flowing energy of yin and yang in our earthly world. Earthly beings are equipped with five senses - sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. A harmonious tasting experience requires balancing the five flavors - sour, bitter, sweet, pungent, and salty - which respond to the five elements.
The new Moss Celadon glaze draws inspiration from traditional Chinese and Korean celadon, a finish cherished since antiquity. Its soft, luminous surface resembles jade—a stone revered in Chinese culture as a symbol of purity, virtue, and harmony. Tōsei’s interpretation features a delicate, pale-toned glaze where a misty white melts into a subtle moss-green tint. Elegant and smooth to the touch, it embodies both historical resonance and a sense of quiet refinement.
Dimensions: 7.5 cm H x 7.5 cm W. Capacity: 150 ml.
High fired Porcelain. Dishwasher safe and food safe.
